Full Name : Yong Wai Yeen
Artistic Name: Alexander Yong
Based in : Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia
Specialization : Professional Watercolor
I’m Alexander Yong, a professional watercolor artist based in Ipoh, Malaysia. My journey with art started in childhood, shaped later by my formal training at the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA, Class of '98).
While my earlier works heavily documented Malaysia's architectural heritage and old-world streetscapes, my current practice dives deeper into contemporary life. Through my recent series like “Becoming”, I explore how we interact with technology—how screens, soft glows, and invisible digital webs connect us while quietly pulling us apart.
Technically, my work blends traditional mastery—such as precise moisture control, complex pigment layering, and large-format paper handling—with expressive, freehand water techniques. Whether I'm painting a crumbling heritage building or a glowing digital silhouette in a crowd, my goal is always the same: to capture the quiet emotional pulse of our times with honesty and depth.
